Alumni Gifts Make a Difference!

Alumni contributions are vital to the College and demonstrate the powerful connection alumni feel to the needs of current students and to the mission and goals of the college. Giving can take many forms.

Volunteerism: Alumni volunteers give of their time, energy, experience and organizational talents. They serve as class representatives, officers of the alumni association or involved members. Alumni host receptions for prospective graduates and organize alumni events and community service opportunities. They serve as tutors, mentors and class speakers. Their involvement enriches the college and our students’ lives.

Financial contributions: Alumni and friends of the College generously contribute our annual campaign, the cornerstone of which is the spring Phone-A-Thon. Gifts may be earmarked for capital needs, scholarships, or individually specified needs; or they may be unrestricted, allowing the college to use the gift for the most pressing needs. Other specific opportunities:

a. Memorial gifts: Classmates or family often elect to memorialize a deceased classmate or loved one through a gift in the alumnus’ memory. The creation of a scholarship or special fund in their name is a wonderful tribute. A unique example was the creation the "Wilma Crawford Textbook Collection," by the Class of 1951 and the Crawford family.

b. Endowed funds: A large gift or a substantial pledge of future giving may allow the formation of a self perpetuating, endowed fund. The fund disburses only interest income each year, while the principal balance remains untouched. These may fund student scholarships, faculty development activities or other categories of need. Endowed funds are often carry the name of the benefactor.

In-Kind Gifts allow alumni and friends to make tax advantaged gifts of goods and services. Can be made through the Carolinas HealthCare Foundation or directly to the College. In either case funds are deposited with the Foundation, which provides fee-free investment services and account management. The Foundation provides investment advice and assistance.
